A Family Vacation In Fort Lauderdale Doesn’t Have to Break the Bank

Vacation

So you want to go to sunny Florida for a family vacation but are worried about activities that won’t break the bank? There are plenty of things to do on or near a Fort Lauderdale beach or Florida Hotel that will be fun for the whole family and easy on your wallet.

First of all, the beach is an admission-free place to have a lot of family fun! Beachfront sports like volleyball, Frisbee and touch football can be entertaining or all ages and are a great way to exercise as a family. If you stay at a beachfront hotel for your family vacation you can walk out of your room and onto one of the volleyball nets set up along the Fort Lauderdale beaches.

The great advantage to a family vacation in Fort Lauderdale is the free events and festivals year-round. For example, if you visit in December you can check out the Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade along the Intracoastal. If you visit from June to September you can enjoy Saturday Nite Alive, which offers free, live beachfront entertainment. You don’t have to spend money to enjoy Fort Lauderdale’s awesome shopping scene. Take the family window-shopping downtown and experience the unique Las Olas boutiques. If you enjoy finding a good deal at the outlets, check out Sawgrass Mills, located in Sunrise, just a short drive from Fort Lauderdale.

While you’re on Las Olas take a stroll down the Riverwalk and watch boats along the intracoastal or enjoy the sounds of local musicians playing along the way. Stop for lunch in a café or grab some sweets from the local bakeries. For a small fare you can take a Fort Lauderdale water taxi and get a guided tour along the waterways and see celebrities’ homes and yachts as well as historical places and wildlife.

If fresh and local is on your to-do list, head to Fort Lauderdale’s farmer’s market, held every Sunday on Las Olas Boulevard. Have a taste of the local fare and experience the culture from local artisans and artists. Admission is free and fun for the whole family.

A family vacation at a Fort Lauderdale, Florida, resort or hotel doesn’t have to hurt your wallet. Your family can have fun on a budget and make memories to last a lifetime! For more ideas on things to do while on your family vacation, check out Sunny.org.
